Backup Management Application (BMA) Integration
VTS is designed to seamlessly integrate into standard BMA's (Backup Management
Applications) such as NetBackup, Networker, Tivoli, File Archive
Mate (FAM) and others. This integration allows any host connected to VTS to
participate under a standard backup application.
For example, when the customer decides to export data stored on VTS to a
NetBackup-managed tape system, a backup or duplication command is initiated
through VTS's GUI or from any of the attached NetBackup systems using end-user
defined policy files. Files are written to the NetBackup-managed library or tape
device specified and the NetBackup catalog is updated. Files are restored from
the NetBackup-managed tape system to VTS in a similar manner.
This efficient and seamless integration allows all host types - regardless of
whether they support a specific BMA or not, to fully participate under an
Enterprise-wide BMA. There is no requirement for the host to support the
specific BMA deployed as long as VTS supports that BMA.
