What is SPHiNX?

SPHiNX is a virtual tape solution that provides complete data protection, consolidates backups, and streamlines disaster recovery – an essential part of every IT strategy. A disk-based appliance, SPHiNX functions as a virtual tape library or drive that integrates easily with existing infrastructure components to help you improve backup performance and network availability.

If a physical tape copy is needed, SPHiNX transparently writes data to tape. This process can be automated during idle times outside of the normal backup window to ensure resources are used efficiently and not overburdened.

Less physical tape means a reduced environmental footprint with fewer machines and resources needed. Instead of multiple drives per physical library partition or device, you have a single appliance that connects transparently to multiple hosts and tape devices.

SPHiNX Data Replication provides flexible support for offsite data protection with replication options to consolidate data back to your main site or replicate data from the primary to a remote site forisaster recovery.

SPHiNX WAN Acceleration is an optional software licensed feature that optimizes the replication of data between remote systems to remove unnecessary latencies associated with transmitting data over the network.

SPHiNX Data Encryption

Data Encryption, an optional software licensed feature for SPHiNX, secures data through an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm with a 256-bit key length. This feature satisfies your regulatory compliance policies regarding the security of data at rest on disk or tape media.

With SPHiNX, you can use software encryption to secure data stored on disk, which remains encrypted during transfer to tape. Or, SPHINX can completely offload the encryption algorithm processing by passing a generated key to a physical tape device equipped with a hardware encryption chipset. Both methods ensure that physical tapes are securely transported offsite and archived in a protected format.
