VTS seamlessly integrates into standard, industry-leading Backup Management Applications (BMAs) and does not impact previously configured backup application processes, allowing any host connected to VTS to fully function with a standard BMA. This allows organizations to protect investments in existing backup applications, workflows and policies.
For example, when VTS exports virtual tapes to a BMA-managed system to create physical tapes, end-user defined commands can be initiated through VTS or from the BMA system and files are then written to BMA-managed libraries or tape devices. Similarly, files can also be restored from the BMA-managed tape systems to VTS.
This efficient and seamless integration allows all host types - regardless of whether they support a specific BMA or not, to fully participate under an enterprise-wide BMA. There is no requirement for the host to support the specific BMA deployed as long as VTS supports that BMA.
